Ben Whittaker survived the toughest test of his professional career to defeat Conor Wallace by unanimous decision in Birmingham and secure his position as the leading IBF light heavyweight contender. Whittaker controlled much of the first nine rounds with sharper movement, accurate combinations and superior distance management, appearing comfortably ahead before Wallace dramatically changed the momentum late. The Australian-based Irishman hurt Whittaker in the tenth and then pushed him to the limit in a chaotic final round, where Whittaker was badly shaken and fell to the canvas several times, although none of the incidents were ruled knockdowns. Whittaker held on to hear scorecards of 117-111, 116-112 and 115-113, preserving his unbeaten record and moving a major step closer to a world-title opportunity.
